I purchased these heat resistant gloves because I am a bread baker and some of the breads that I bake require very high heat and large heavy cast iron pans which were hard to navigate with regular pot holders and bulky silicone gloves. When I saw these I knew I had to try them out! These oven gloves are just as pliable as I hoped they would be, making it easy to grab smaller handles and large weighty cast iron pans without feeling like they are going to slip out of my grasp. They provide excellent coverage to the hand area, even on the back of my hands which often come into contact with the element at the top of my oven when I am trying to get a larger pan out of the oven. I've even used these gloves to do a test on cast iron pots on the grill, where temperatures easily exceed 800 degrees and have been thoroughly pleased with the protection they gave my hands.
I read some of the reviews before I bought these, and I have to clear up one of the claims that was made about the gloves not protecting your hands from the heat. I have not found this to be true. Every mitt and pot holder that I have tried has its limits, the silicone mitts are great, but you can't hold on to a hot pan for very long before it starts getting too hot and you have to put it down (and they are tremendously bulky which makes it hard to get a grasp on things.) Traditional cloth pot holders work a little better than the silicone at keeping the heat at bay, but they can burn and again after a bit you start feeling the heat. I was able to hold a pan taken out of a 550 degree oven with these gloves on, and while it was warm, I was able to keep hold of the pan for longer than I could with either the traditional pot holders or the silicone gloves. My husband was so intrigued by the new addition to our kitchen that he had to try them on and pull a pan out of the oven for me (he is thoroughly convinced that these are AMAZING!) Honestly, the freedom that these gloves give your hands and fingers while you are working with hot pans is worth twice the price - these are a necessity for baking!!!
